Track 4
Steam Park - Main Street
As the sun sets over the steampunk playground, the thrill rises! It’s time for “Escape from S” to begin!
Introducing “S”—— or “The Searcher” as they’re called—— A tin titan with only one mission: Hunt down our brave challengers in the “Steam Park”!
Steam Park - Plaza
They’ll have to duck, dive, and disappear to escape the grasp of the Searchers! Only those who survive till dawn will make it!
Anyone caught will be locked up in the massive cage located in the plaza, where they’ll sit out for the rest of the game!
Steam Park - Alleyway
It’s a team showdown this time! The last team standing with the most survivors wins!
Who among these brave challengers will survive and bask in the glory of the victorious dawn!?
Steam Park - Plaza
…..Okay, in order to keep us ahead in the game, here’s a quick rundown of what to keep in mind.
First and most important: don’t get caught. The Searchers can’t detect heat signals, but they’re sensitive to noise.
Once you’re in their capture range, out-running them will be difficult. So your safest option is to rely on stealth.
Oh, and it seems like, as a regular part of the show, they usually have some co-op team missions that pop up mid-game too.
That’s right. And with the team-based cooperative missions, once you start, failing to complete them means facing a penalty.
B-But, there were challengers in the past who got caught during the mission and had to quit, right...? Isn’t it possible to just, you know, skip the team missions...?
No, completing those missions is one of the key requirements for a “True Clear”.
Precisely. We’re not just here to win; we’re going for the True Clear and the commercial rights. Every mission counts.
F-Fuehhh, this is like a path full of thorns… Oh, but we get one do-over if we mess up a team mission… Maybe this is actually kinder than real life……
Still, even getting a normal clear is tough on this show. I’d be plenty happy with just winning and getting the prize money…..
You fool….. If you’re satisfied with a victory achieved by compromise, it just shows how lacking you are. Small cups like you can only hold so much.
What’dya say!? Liguang, you bastard, you don’t know a thing about what I’m capable of holding!
I guess you could say his cup was Reng-ular1 sized, then.
……..
(So, this means we still each get prize money based on how long we last, even if we bail midway.)
(Well, guess I’ll just find a good moment to call it quits….)
Ten. Just so you know, quitting isn’t an option. For a True Clear, we need the whole team to make it out.
Oh c’monnn, I wouldn’t dream of it.
Hm, looks like there’s an update on the phones they provided us. There are 3 areas where cooperative missions will happen.
Looks like it’s already started. With 3 locations, we’ll need to split up into pairs. Let’s decide the teams by rock-paper-scissors——
Hey, I don’t think we have time for that.
I hear footsteps getting closer! And they sound…..metallic!
So much for taking it easy….!
Alright. Everyone, scatter! Report back if anything happens! Good Luck!
HAMA House - Living Room
Ah! Everyone’s on screen!
UUUOOOOGHHH, HOORAY HOORAY! MORNING TEAM! GO GO GO, MORNING TEAM!
W-Wha….. Oh….. This is….
Nagi? Are you alright? You’ve been mumbling and shaking……
……I’m facing the ultimate dilemma right now. I can’t believe it but….. among the participants, of all people——it has to be the Elephantastic Memorial2……!
Yeah, no joke. To think Elephantastic Memorial would be making an appearance on the Comedian Team. I mean, I’m rooting for the Morning Team, but my attention’s kinda split now….
Oh, that’s the comedian you two are fans of, right? That makes sense. It does make things a bit complicated.
Hmm…. But if I think about it calmly, Renga’s team has what it takes to bring in the views too…..Actually, for what this show is looking for, Renga and the Morning Team’s style might have the winning advantage here——
(So the “win” that Nagi-kun’s focused on… is the screen time……)
Steam Park - Indoor Area
The HAMA Tours team has been forced to split up, and look who’s just made it to Mission A’s checkpoint — it's Kafka Oguro and Yukikaze Kamina!
(Well, I jumped on the path in front of me on impulse, but… of all people to team up with, it just had to be Yukikaze…..?)
Teamwork is key for Mission A! Welcome to the “Telepathy Tag” challenge!
(There are some more engravings hidden in the decorations here. It looks like the same code as the one near the gate.)
(…….”Everything returns to the beginning.”, huh?)
This is a teamwork challenge, so no “I work alone” business! You will board your assigned airships at the same time and answer the questions given to you!
Give matching answers, and the mission’s yours! But if you miss… you’ll get hit with a cloud of steam... and eventually, those airships will take you to infinity and beyond!
So, will these two be able to telepathically come up with the same answer to the questions!?!?
<Question: What would you call something that flies in the sky?>
Airplane.
Drone.
<Bzzzt! Wrong answer. Airship ascending!>
Woah!?
……I see…. So this is what happens when you get the wrong answer——you get a nice steam facial.
<Next question: When it comes to steampunk movies, what’s the first that comes to mind?>
Spirited Away to the Valley in the Sky3.
Steam Girl.
<Bzzt! Incorrect. Ascending the airship and increasing steam output!>
Cough, cough! Hey, what are you doing, Yukikaze? Try to match my answers here!
I know, I know. But my answer just now wasn’t wrong.
I wanted to prepare for this show, and Akuta recommended that movie to me. I just watched it yesterday — it was quite entertaining, really.
Wait, hold on — I don’t know anything about that!
HAMA House - Living Room
(Wait….. Are they arguing?)
Oh, no no no no! What’re we gonna do?! They just got overtaken by the team that got there after them!
I-It’ll be fine! Those two can pull through — I just know it!
Steam Park - Indoor Area
<Too many wrong answers! Time to raise the difficulty. Ready to blast off, baby?>
<Next question: What’s a classic bento side dish?>
……Isn’t this a no-brainer? Let’s actually match our answers this time, Yukikaze!
Absolutely. There’s only one possible answer here.
(Chief’s absolute favorite——)
(The must-have item in Chief’s bento——)
It’s Shumai!
Whoa, looks like HAMA Tours team finally lined up their answers~! That’s a mission ACCOMPLISHEDDD!!
We’re a bit behind now, but we’ll make up for it. Come on, Kafka.
Whose fault do you think that is? And don’t tell me what to do.
But, well…..
We’ll pull this off somehow. Chief’s watching us from beyond the screen and cheering us on, too.
Originally, the joke is that Liguang said to Renga “器が小せぇと目 標も小せぇ。” which is roughly “Small capability, small goals.” but 器 can also be used to refer to containers, utensils, tools, etc. (like bowls and plates) so Renga bites back with “You haven’t even seen what my 器 (capability/bowl/container) is like!”. Then Yukikaze made a wordplay, saying that Renga’s plate is normal-sized, because he heard them talking about 器. This joke doesn’t make sense if you just translate it directly to English, so I took some creative liberties with it.
The original name is 像鼻メモリアル (Zou-hana Memorial). This is a reference to Zou-no-hana Park in Yokohama, Japan. The name, Zou-no-hana, derives from the shape of the nearby breakwater in the park that gradually changed over the years and came to resemble an elephant’s trunk. Since the name of this fictional figure is a reference of the park, I just localized it into something that still makes you think of elephants when you read it (because the JP literally means Elephant Trunk)
